Consortia for Education and Research (COFER)

‹Consortia for Education and Research (COFER)› are oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the U.N. Agenda 2030 (cf. SUDAC project proposal). Two calls have supported the creation of COFER. The first call was closed in February 2017, the second and final call was closed in May 2018. A total of 10 COFER has been funded.

To achieve its goals, SUDAC calls for the formation of consortia that are thematically aligned with the SDGs. The consortia are interdisciplinary and include several types of universities and partner institutions from the global South. In order to bundle the activities of the Swiss actors, the call for «hubs» in selected regions of the global South is envisaged. For their financing, cooperation with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is envisaged. The project is based on the experience of numerous bilateral research partnerships of the Swiss universities, the NCCR North-South, the KFPE, the EZA group of the UAS and PHs as well as the Leading Houses with regional mandates designated by the SERI.

In another call from swissuniversities, CLOC West Africa was created out of COFER WASH, COFER EFORD and COFER SAS4SD.
