The Call for Students for the 2022 Winter School organised by NEWAL – CLOC West Africa was open for applications from 21 September 2021 to 22 October 2021.

Winter schools (ca. 10 days) will take place at KNUST (Ghana) in 2022 and 2024, following up on the very successful NEWAL 2020 winter school. Participating students from Swiss and West African academic institutions will explore the nexuses between the SDGs, the overarching theme of water, and their respective academic fields. The schools will include field excursions, case study applications, theoretical inputs, and applied group work.

The goal of the winter schools is for university students to spend time in the field understanding local challenges related to sustainable development. During the school they will speak with stakeholders, do surveys, collect relevant information, and work across disciplines. Following up on knowledge gained during the winter schools, the students will identify thesis topics that can feed into practical solutions to identified challenges.

The students’ research should lead to the establishment of partnerships with local NGOs and businesses. Such partnerships will be promoted through online trainings and a virtual marketplace.
